Bold print
means event is a confirmed series event
Regular print
means still some question over date or location. Other NA
Masters events are
reverse coloured. Colour coding in the
first column identifies back to back regattas. NA's, US and CDN Nats will have
Radial start if five or more Radials pre-register and if the Regatta Organizers
agree.

It actually means that.

Rule Changes from Year to Year are highlighted in Yellow (last revised on December 7, 2004)
No Rule Changes so far for 2006. Definitely NO double points last races!
Series scoring: We will score both the overall handicapped results and the individual age group results. One point for first, two for second, etc. Did not enter scores 100 points initially but this will be adjusted to the largest number of sailors plus 1 so that a sailor who enters a regatta will always received some scoring benefit. At the start of the season everyone is equal with 300 points, with the possibility of working all the way up to 3 points. Those who do three events will almost always finish ahead of those who only two events etc. And, of course, you must be a member of ILCA when you sail your events.
Age at the day of the regatta counts. Sailors who move up an age group in the middle of the series can elect to stay in the younger age group as long as they have completed (sailed - just not entered) in a series event at prior to their birthday that year. You must advise the regatta organizers to appear correctly in the official regatta results.(2003)
One race completed constitutes a valid regatta.
Standard regatta scoring across all series, 1, 2, 3, etc.
Anyone can switch between full rig, radial rig, 4.7 rig and back in strong wind conditions if they have the same sail number. This rig change over can only be carried out on land--no smart Alecs trying to change rigs afloat please! (Experimental 2005 rule)
Radials will start with full rigs on the same line at the same time in regional masters events. Arrangements full rigs and radials for major championships will be done on a case by case basis depending on potential size of Radial fleet and feedback from the Radial sailors. (Experimental 2005 Rule continued for 2006)
Prizes should be for the age divisions rather than overall. Suggested trophy list is for 1, 2, & 3 in each age group plus first overall plus first female if more than one is sailing. We need to reward more than just the hotshots.
Please try to encourage colour coding for age divisions Apprentice Master Grand Master Great Grand Master by using mast head ribbon or coloured band around base of mast.
NA Masters handicap system. You add the following points to each race to find the overall series winner.
Apprentices - add 3 points
Masters - add 2 points
Grand Masters - add 1 point
GGM's - add 0 points.
The results are recalculated and the person with the lowest score wins, etc. The easiest way to do it is to add the points at the end, i.e. if there are five races, four to count, you add points to the Masters score. If you add the points to each race result then you have lost track of the actual race finishing positions- and we sailors really hate it when the clubs do that.
For division results, we take the results from the overall results. We do not recalculate the results for division results only. (Clear as mud?) In other words you are racing EVERYONE in the fleet not just your own age group.
For NA Masters scoring the following software programs will take care of masters handicapping
The St. Pete Scorer. There is a special version for NA Masters Handicap fleets. Cost is $25US
Sailwave See US Masters results for output. Free for now but donation is recommended.
An Excel spreadsheet with macros - ask JDE for details
Alan Broadribb (ex Exec Sec ) also developed an MS-DOS program but location is unknown.

Major events should have reasonable access to major airlines, some billeting for long distance sailors and some charter boats if at all possible. Possible rotation is shown to assist in club planning, but is NOT hard and fast. Sometimes combining events on adjacent weekends works well, as with US Masters and NA Masters a few years ago, when we had several Europeans attend.
