Masters Sailing in North America - A Potted History
According to Lainie Pardey the first Masters series was sailed in 1998, after then secretary Allan Broadrib thought it would be a good idea to start such a series. He did not think the turnout was sufficient to run the series again in 1999. Several masters sailors, including your webmaster who started his laser career in 1998, did not realize the 1999 series was "cancelled" with the major masters events still run. Unofficial 1999 results tabulated using the 1998 format can be seen on the 1999 Masters results page . For 2000 the series was resurrected by Fred, but with a scoring system based on how many boats you beat with a minimum number of sailors. A good idea but a bit complicated.

For 2001 we are going to have a simple scoring system probably based on the low
score system used by the EuroMasters. The best three events will count,
but we have not yet decided on the number of qualifying events. This
is under discussion. Scoring will be based on the normal NA handicapped
results for standard and radial rigs and also for the separate non-handicapped
age groups.
